Possibly the greatest musical moment Wednesday at Tipitina's happened before Wilco hit the stage. Nels Cline re-appeared on stage for John Doe's last song, which was "Gimme Shelter." Like that song isn't powerful enough, here comes Cline to add background dramatic color that had my eyes popping out of my head. It was almost like he understood the song so well and what it lacked(if that's possible) that he just got up there and took it to a more amazing level. Can you imagine if he just came up with his part on the spot? Because it was thought out. Certain chords going up against the song's original chords and then he played those higher notes, higher and higher, just when the song needed it--some kind of music sound barrier must have been broken.

Wilco took the stage, and Tweedy continued to playfully berate the president of the John Stirratt fan club for misspelling his name.

Wilco was the same well-oiled band from the night before(not that they sped through the set, but they have every song so figured out that they do away with jams and try to fit in as many as possible), this time a little more rockin' and enduring, as they played two more songs. The set seemed to rely on their more experimental and less folky material, which I enjoyed. "Company in My Back," "Handshake Drugs," "Heavy Metal Drummer(the sing-along of the night)", and "I'm a Wheel" were nice surprises.

"Monday" began the last five song stretch that blew up the place with energy. I got a little more elbow room, so I was jumping up and down, especially during "I'm a Wheel." It's easy to forget how much some of the later songs can rock. "Kicking Television" would have been really great, but oh, well.
