World Leader Pretend

Jazzfest

April 29, 2005

Please read the previous two reviews of the band before this one. Those have the essentials.

World Leader Pretend was technically on point with their performance at the Jazzfest Friday afternoon, but their smart, nuanced, and sometimes quiet music had no place at the Acura stage. Their music is better suited for an intimate venue at nighttime. The distance between the stage and the audience created an energy barrier. The crowd seemed perplexed, but that doesn't mean they didn't clap once they caught onto what WLP was trying to do. I think the crowd wanted party music--something to get hit over the head with. WLP was not that. They rock, but they're no Motorhead.
