Emmylou Harris is a country music legend. Hopefully, as she dips her feet more and more into folk music, recognition of her influence will spread. Harris has played with Dylan, Gram Parsons, Neil Young, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, etc.
Harris, 56, was at a point in her career Friday afternoon when she should have been lying down and playing her greatest hits, but she performed great original music at Jazzfest's Sprint Stage. She mixed up her hits with newer material.
It was sit-down music, that was best to lament in a relaxed state. Her sad songs, which mixed country with folk, neared perfection. Her flawless live delivery cut straight to the heart. She played well-crafted songs.
And her voice! Please sing at my funeral, Emmylou!? Her voice was mournful and hopeful in the same moment, and its power was huge.
Emmylou looked beautiful, and she addressed the crowd with humility and relaxed candor. Ahhhh, to bask in the sweetness of Emmylou's music.
