The first day was soldout, mainly because of Radiohead. This show was great, but since I was with a group, I was on a hill a ways from the stage and couldn't escape the four guys next to me who talked through the entire show. What the fuck is wrong with people? Why would you waste your time at a show you didn't even want to see? Because it's the place to be? Everyone likes to feel smart, right? I have a feeling that douchebags who don't even like the band go see Radiohead to feel sensitive and intelligent. Or maybe they're just evil and they like to talk at concerts.
The sun was still setting when Radiohead took the stage, so their light show wasn't of use, but when it was, man it kicked ass. During "Paranoid Android," during the "rain down" lyric, the screen of lights behind the band looked like an actual shower. Goes to show how much an effect an awesome light show can have on a concert. It makes the music so much better.
Radiohead was on point, as expected, and played an amazing nine out of the ten songs on "In Rainbows." I didn't think the festival show would be so heavy on new stuff. I thought they'd play seven, not nine. And I really thought they'd play "Karma Police" because it was a festival, but no. Still, "2+2=5" was a nice surprise. Such an awesome live song, as was "Bodysnatchers," which I made sure I gave all of myself to in rocking.
There are many delicate moments on the new album, especially on "Nude" and "House of Cards," so how great was it that in front of a festival crowd, Radiohead stayed true to the beautiful sounds on the record and expected the crowd to come to them, not the other way around? Man, I respect this band so much.
How could "National Anthem" not be a highlight? One of the best bass lines ever. And "Idioteque" was kickin'.
The band didn't say much, but they didn't have to. If they show up, they inevitably blow everyone's mind.
Something else to ponder: what's your favorite Radiohead album vs. the album that's actually their best?
