It's safe to say that locals Magna Porta impressed everyone in the Circle Bar Monday night. Their inscrutable math(read: proggy) rock had traces of spaciness, jazz, and metal. And their drummer, well, he had amazing range and endurance. Magna Porta's like The Mars Volta, but less annoying. Less shrieks and ill-thought jam detours. There was no meandering with Magna Porta's music. It was all tight and thought out, and dare I say it, sometimes poppy. I'm sure you could muster some kind of cathartic seizure dance to it. Most importantly, it rocked.
